About Art

Born in the City of Woodland in 1979, Art Pimentel began his education at Willow Spring Elementary School. After graduating from Woodland High School in 1997, Art went on to attend California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences. While attending CSUS, Art served as student body Vice President and President, and in 2002 he was elected Chairman of the California State Student Association (CSSA), which advocates on behalf of 480,000 students in the California State University System. Art again returned to CSUS where he received his Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership in 2010.

Art was first elected to the Woodland City Council in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 where he served first as Vice-Mayor and now Mayor. As Mayor during these difficult economic times, Art has worked tirelessly to balance the budget without terminating jobs. He has prioritized job creation, economic development and infrastructure, while always emphasizing responsible growth. He has also worked to curb youth violence, revive our historic downtown, and sought to provide better educational and recreational opportunities for residents. He currently serves as Chairman for the Yolo-Solano Air Board, Board Member for the Yolo County Transportation District, member of the Affordable Housing Subcommittee, as well as member of the Yolo/Woodland 2X2.

Since December 2006, Art has worked at Woodland Community College. In 2009 he became Director of Woodland Community College’s TRiO programs, which assist low-income first-generation high school and college students reach their educational goals. In addition to his city and career responsibilities, Art currently serves as member of the Coalition for Woodland Youth and member of the Taller de Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (TANA) Community Advisory Board. Art has also participated in the Great Valley Leadership Class, the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy, and the California International Studies Project with the School of Education at Stanford University.
