Born in Woodland in 1979, Art Pimentel began his education at Willow Spring Elementary School. After graduating from Woodland High School in 1997, Art attended California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). In 1999, Art was hired as Legislative Assistant for Assembly Member Tony Cardenas. While attending CSUS, Art was elected student body vice-president in 2000-01, and continued his political efforts the following year as student body president, representing 27,000 students. During his term, Art helped balance an $8.2 million budget, promoted the Cadet Program to aid campus police efforts, and established an internship program with the support of local business people and state-elected officials. In 2002, he was elected chairman of the California State Student Association (CSSA), an association that advocates on behalf of the 480,000 students of the California State University System. As chairman, Art worked closely with the State Legislature, Board of Trustees, Chancellor's Office, and labor unions to develop and influence university public policy. In 2002, Art received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. That same year he served as Deputy Supervisor for a member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, where he worked on issues pertaining to county planning, policy, and management.
On March 2nd, 2004, Art was elected to the Woodland City Council. In his four years as councilman he has been a tireless participant on both the city and county level. He is a member of the Infrastructure Subcommittee, Affordable Housing Subcommittee, Homeless Coordination Project Liaison, and the City Council Energy Task Force. In addition, he currently serves as chairman of the Yolo County Transportation District and board member on the Yolo-Solano Air Board. Art also serves on several community boards, including WAVE (Woodland Access Visual Enterprises), The Apple Tree Foundation for Woodland Youth, Woodland Coalition for Youth Member, and as an Ambassador for the Woodland Chamber of Commerce.
In 2006, Art accepted the position of Public Information Specialist at Woodland Community College where he is currently employed. Art has also participated in the Great Valley Leadership Class, The Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy, and the California International Studies Project with the School of Education at Stanford University.
